A mortgage refinance can sometimes take months to complete. There are countless documents and disclosures that must be carefully prepared according to government regulations like TRID, the TILA-RESPA Integrated Disclosure. These regulations require lenders and escrow/title companies to work together with the borrower. There is a lot of back and forth communication, signing of documents, providing personal information, etc. Certain documents like the Closing Disclosure must be presented to the borrower prior to the loan signing. These rules and processes can make it difficult for the lender to nail down a closing date and time in advance, which can cause some loans to be closed on short notice. If the borrowers have an interest rate lock set to expire, this can put additional pressure on all parties involved, including the notary public
Last week I was contacted to close a refinance for a couple who were on vacation and needed a notary public in Mission Beach. Their lender didn’t know they were leaving town and there had been some additional confusion which lead to the expiring rate lock and last minute signing. Since they wouldn’t be home in time to close before their rate lock expired, we had to meet at their temporary home away from home. A quick Google search for San Diego notary public, lead the lender to my website and we set up the signing. It was getting late and he needed the borrowers to sign before 9:00 PM so they would make the last overnight to Northern California. I was able to download and print the documents and get to their vacation rental in Mission Beach right away. We completed the signing and notarized documents in under 45 minutes, allowing them to get back to enjoying their vacation with friends and family. The loan documents made it out in time and were delivered to the lender the next day.
Most loan signings aren’t this chaotic, but occasionally I get called by lenders in need of a last minute San Diego notary public. Part of what I like about being a San Diego notary public, is that I get to help people out in a pinch. They are sometimes stressed and anxious since it’s taken so long to get to this point, but I get to walk them through the process and help put them at ease. As a San Diego notary, I’m often the only person the borrowers meet with face to face, during the refinance process. Borrowers often find lenders online, speak to them over the phone or email, and sometimes never actually meet them face to face. It’s important that the notary signing agent be polite, professional and knowledgeable, so that they best represent the lender and escrow company.
